Artistic Statement

artistry is a never-ending journey. I am always on a journey to learn as much as I can from everyone whose paths I cross. Being an artist means finding inspiration in any and all places. All that I can see, touch, smell, and taste is something has KINETIC potential that I can physicalize in my movement and direction. Exploring other art forms and expressions outside of my main medium is how I challenge my own creative thinking and stay inspired. often, I find myself drawn to drawn to influential queer icons from the 80s and 90s, such as Grace Jones and Freddie Mercury. I am interested in COLLABORATING with visual artists, musicians, poets, and actors to CHALLENGE myself and my fellow artists to create outside of our comfot zones. In my many years of creating, I have always found that my most successful creations come to fruition when I feel challenged.

The intention behind my work is to allow myself and my dancers to use our voices through movement. I strive to create with authenticity and passion, celebrating that there is no "right" or "wrong" when it comes to creativity. Dance is a universal language that creates a way for anyone to communicate without bounds. Dancers have the amazing ability to create a safe space where there are no limits to interpretation, and I always celebrate that freedom of artistry in my work. Now especially, it is so incredibly important to uplift human voices. I pride myself and my work for being completed human made in every aspect. As someone who grew up not accepted by my peers and often found it hard to fit in, I now completely embrace myself as all the things I was taught to be ashamed of. In my processes, I encourage any and all ideas, no matter how strange or unconventional they may appear. I am most fulfilled when all who are involved in the process feel heard.

I am so grateful to share my art with other passionate and talented artists. It is my belief that artists have an incredibly important role in our world. Building and fostering a community is a pillar of what keeps art alive and well. Being a part of this community is something I hold proudly and loudly in my every day life.
